On April 26, 2021, the European Commission announced that its draft proposal for the new EU Artificial Intelligence Regulation (“Draft AI Regulation”) is currently indicated to be open for feedback until July 15, 2021.* The Draft AI Regulation was published on April 21. Please refer to our blog post here that provides an overview of the Draft AI Regulation and its potential impact.
The European Commission now invites stakeholders to provide feedback to the Draft AI Regulation so as to contribute to the EU decision-making process. Before preparing the text of the Draft AI Regulation, the European Commission had released a White Paper on Artificial Intelligence and had also opened this up for public consultation for stakeholders to express their views on the specific questions raised and the policy options that were proposed. Now, stakeholders are invited to actually comment on the proposed text.
To provide feedback, stakeholder must be registered with the European Commission’s authentication service (the portal through which secure feedback can be provided). Once registered, stakeholders may upload a document expressing their views and/or can provide limited feedback by using the comment box. All feedback will be summarized by the European Commission and presented to the European Parliament and Council to enrich legislative deliberation and debate.
If you might be interested to participate in a coalition to assess the proposed AI regulation and consider submitting collective comments, please let us know.
*This post has been updated to reflect an extension of the deadline to provide feedback to the European Commission until July 15, 2021.
